Personal Item:
Why is your character here: The world Kyrie is from is one she once sought to bend to her own will. To make it a haven for herself and her people, free from the perceived injustices they faced. She would band the squabbling clans of her race together, and lead them out of the frozen tundra against their oppressors.
...But then she had a child. It wasn't that she was now incapable of carrying out that dream, oh no -- she was still the best, she just now had to add 'best mother' to her repertoire -- it was that she'd realized that just as she was greater than her parents, her child was to be better than her. Kyrie is here because children are the future, and she wants her children to do far more than she could ever dream of.
Character history: Kyrie was born in the small, snowy town of Frostvale in the deep north of the continent of Valmasia. This was the capital of the kingdom of her people, the Drakanites, a race of humans descended from one man who'd been blessed with the blood of a dragon. With power over fire and the ability to take on aspects of their draconic heritage (with the most powerful being able to turn into dragons themselves!), they were once a great people, but internal strife and hunting by so-called "dragon slayers" left them with nothing but the tundra. Kyrie herself was born the only child to two purebloods, a hunter and a seamstress, and took on both of their professions, while also dabbling in alchemy and engineering. Life was as happy for her as it could be, but there was one rather large issue...
Her parents wouldn't let her be a dragon.
All of the fire and passion and pride and ambition was quelled by them, because they knew what giving into that nature meant. It was a good part of why their race was what it was now, and it wasn't a life they were going to let their daughter fall into. Kyrie didn't agree, having a great deal of pride in her heritage, and while her parents were the best that anyone could ask for, she decided that they were absolutely wrong, and left home. After all, a dragon did what they wanted.
Kyrie spent the following years praticing her trades and control over fire and water in the human capitol, Danarium, building a name and reputation for herself as that dragon bitch who made pretty cloaks and salves that would either cure your acne or cause your skin to burst into flames. Her business was lucrative, and she found herself a husband (a pureblood drakanite, of course.) whom longed to return to the company of his kinsmen. Returning home after fifteen years, she purchased a large swathe of land, had a manor built, and sat at the throne of her empire -- not one built by blood and iron, but by shrewd business practices and judicious application of baseball bats to kneecaps. It wasn't a glorious life, but it was one that made her very influential.
Plus, it was all pretty fun.
The Vitani family name was afforded a large amount of prestige, and eventually Kyrie was granted an official title of nobility and a seat on the Valmasian council as "Queen of the Drakanites", her people's representative to the High King of Valmasia. She of course refused it, because the country of Valmasia was a human institution and she would not have any part of tying the drakanites to it. Instead, she took on the title of Matriarch of Frostvale (officially acknowledged by absolutely nobody, ever outside of the city, but her influence spoke for itself), and began plotting to unite the clans and secure the ancestral lands of her people...and then she ended up having some kids, which threw a bit of a wrench in her plans for a bit.
She was, of course, only distracted, not deterred. Effectively in charge of Frostvale, if not officially, the role her children would play in her race's ascension was great...she just had to make sure they'd be able to carry on her legacy. And of course they would, wouldn't they? They were her children, after all, and she was the best.
...Wouldn't hurt to make sure, though.
Character personality: Kyrie is proud of her heritage and homeland, extremely so. She is, in her mind, never wrong and always right, and is willing to back her words with actions, usually of a violent nature. She always speaks what's on her mind, and this combined with her pride makes her incredibly awkward in social situations, as she either always says the wrong thing or has the wrong thing said to her. The fact that she assumes that gestures of kindness are actually disguised insults doesn't quite help. While running a business has made her tongue a lot sharper and her personality less tumultuous, as she's learned to actually function socially, she still tends to revert to her old self when not in public or doing business of some sort. For the most part, though, despite whatever it is that lies underneath, her tone and expression are always almost completely even and neutral. At least, until the growling and roaring starts.
She is very intelligent, and very brutal, and when not restraining her emotions for the sake of some grand scheme, incredibly passionate and angry. She considers herself to be the best there is, at everything, ever, and will not hesitate to prove it. If somebody bests her at something, it was by her grace that they were allowed to do so. Gifts are regarded as something that gives you leverage over someone else and shows that you are incredibly kind and generous, and as such she hates receiving them and loves to give them.
Kyrie is also rather eccentric at times, disappearing for days to work on some strange invention or potion. She keeps a rather impressive hoard of useless junk, as any good dragon should, made up entirely of failed experiments. After all, to throw them away would be to accept that something is wrong with them, would it not? She has some pretty strange ideas about how things work, sometimes, and prefers to figure out how exactly to do a thing by doing it. Her greatest ambition next to yadda yadda HAIL DRACONIA is to break the world apart, and figure out how to put it back together. She once aspired to do this by actually literally breaking the world apart. She also has a rather odd penchant for explosions, and a lot of the things she creates has some chance to go up in flames even if by all rights it shouldn't.
Being such a prideful creature, with so much love for her heritage, she's also an unabashed racist. She has no qualms with most races, but humanity, as far as she is concerned, is a cancer that must be contained in order to ensure the survival of everything else. It would be so much better if it could just be removed, but alas...even Kyrie recognizes that's a terrible idea. Even if she does fantasize about it at length. While it's true that drakanites and other races are victims of human greed (Kyrie herself has had to kill a few dragon slayers, and made public examples of them!), she also holds that everything wrong with the world is a result of humanity, that they are base creatures, and that Drakanites deserve to rule above all. She is also absolutely disgusted by crossbreeding, viewing the union of a drakanite and a human (or any other race and a human, though most are not compatible), as a dilution of blood and a form of genocide, by eventually breeding out all non-human racial traits. While she holds no ire for halfbreeds (mostly just pity and a bit of disgust), she has nothing but hatred for the parents that would curse their children so.
Last, but not least, she values family over anything else. While she regards herself as the best, her parents were the best before she existed, and she is sure her children will grow to surpass her. Her family name is sacred to her, and she believes any threat against the Vitani is a perfectly fine justification for death. Insults are not taken lightly, either, but to those she applies a more elegant touch. Generally, the ruination of one's life is sufficient to compensate for slights against her family. Her desire to prove to her family (and to a lesser extent, the world), how capable she is, even when dipping into her draconic nature, was her primary driving force throughout her youth. Afterwards it was her desire for her children to be great that motivated her in all her endeavours.
...She also has a huge soft spot for children. Children are the future! And also cute.
Skill loss or memory loss? Skill Loss.
Effect of losing skills: Kyrie regards herself as the best at everything. It's why she even chose to lose her skills, at first -- her memories are who she is, what drives her, and even without the ability to use magic or sew or be a dragon or build a bomb, she's still the best. Once she realizes that she is now, in fact, terrible at everything she used to be very good at, she'll be incredibly frustrated and angry and fiery...but that will only stoke the flames of her ambition more. With a challenge provided, she will do everything in her power to surmount it. She already started from nothing, once. While doing so again is maddening, especially knowing what she is capable of, she would gladly start over a million times if it meant getting what she wants.
Effect of powercap: Kyrie is primarily a fire mage with a great deal of endurance. She'll have a lot less, and her powers over fire will be limited to tossing around fireballs and breathing flame. Her water magic is never really used for more than whipping people with and making steam. She has a mace but isn't particularly strong or skilled with it. It just makes bones crack nice.
SURVEY -
1. Introduce yourself:
I am Kyrie Vitani, Head of House Vitani, Matriarch of Frostvale. I am a successful businesswoman and inventor, and the mother of two children. People prostrate themselves at my approach, and I pay them no mind. They do not deserve it.
2. Favorite color?
Powder blue. It matches the snow.
3. What do you pride yourself on?
This is a dumb question. If one does not pride themselves on everything they are, then they are not worth the effort this question takes to ask. It is inefficient.
4. What parts of yourself do you consider most essential?
To a degree, everything about myself is essential. I am, after all, the sum of my parts. I suppose if I have to choose, it would be my upbringing and my ancestry. Without those I would likely not have the drive to accomplish what I have.
5. What parts of yourself would you get rid of if you could?
Nothing.
...Maybe I would like to not be a dragon wearing human's skin. To stomp freely as what I truly am.
...But that's it.
6. What’s most important to you in the world?
My children.
7. How far would you go to get what you want?
As far as I must. I once agreed to kill myself and become undead in order to ensure that I would always be around to secure my legacy and my children's wellbeing. Do you think this is a game? It is not a game.
It did not actually end up happening. The vampire threatened my family shortly afterwards and had to be dealt with.
8. Do you believe in survival of the fittest as applied in a social context?
I left home at the age of ten with nothing and returned a wealthy noble. Do you know how many heads I had to step on to get to that point? All of them.
Yes.
9. What role do you feel most comfortable fufilling in a team situation?
I lead, of course. Anyone else would fuck it all up.
10. Do you believe you made good choices?
Yes. Every choice that I have ever made was the best possible in each situation.
